Dead nice pussy

Daisy Dingo struck this evening as only a lethal lurcher can – a quick despatch of a feral cat the size of a modest badger. I exaggerate, but only just; it was a bit of a huffer. Disturbed immediately after killing a young Wheatear beside some rabbit holes, it made the schoolboy (kitten?) error of trying to nutmeg me with the Wheatear in its chops. Needless to say Daisy was having none of that, and after adjusting her grip she broke its neck in an instant.

I feel a modicum of guilt, as by and large I like cats. However, we have a significant problem with feral cats around here – and contrary to popular belief, they don’t hit the local rabbit population particularly hard – preferring instead to pick off birds as a much easier snackette. I’ve found cat dens out on the hill in the peat banks littered with Snipe wings. So on the whole, I’ll not feel too bad about it. At least it was quick. And Daisy gets to spray-paint a cat silhouette above her bowl.

Other news from this end of the isle – a gentle northwesterly suggested it was waders or nothing today, and duly delivered 3 more Ruff on the edge of the loch earlier in the evening (pre-cat).
